Easy Background Ideas

This idea sheet describes some basic background ideas for rubber stamped art cards. The cards shown here are fron Ink-N-Rubber Expressions  and are shown on the card gallery.

Stamping a background with the same stamp!

Stamping a botanical background

Stamping a random pattern of the same iris stamp used in the foreground can make for an elegant backdrop. This was stamped using a memories background ink, and the edges were shaded using a stipple brush and the same inkpad.

Small Stamps make great backgrounds!

This background was stamped on a taupe cardstock using raisin Adirondack ink.
The small fern can be stamped randomly, and sometimes going off the page.

Stamps Used: Lilies and Tulips (FV-104), Flowers & Vases Collection

Sponge paint the background, light over dark

Stamp light pigment ink over dark cardstock

This background is done to coordinate with the colors of the stamped image. The image was stamped with navy ink, thus the navy background. The background cardstock is sponged with make-up wedge sponges and periwinkle(light violet blue) pigment ink.

Stamps Used: Lilacs in a Vase (FV-102), Flowers & Vases Collection

Use your punches!

Two-tone background with punched accents

The kokopelli was embossed in a blue stone powder. It was stamped on a light colored cardstock from which some swirls were punched OUT. Then it was layered over the blue notecard. The punched holes show the blue through!
Then punch swirls out of different cardstock colors and adhere to the card front.

Stamps Used:  Kokopelli (PG-105), Pottery Gallery
Love Life , Thoughts Just for You

More punches!

Similar to the card directions above, these swirls were punched OUT of the stamped image card, and the yellow from the cardstock below shows through.
